What Has God Created for You?
“So Joseph said to his brothers, "Come near to me, please." And they came near. And he said, "I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt.” Genesis 45:4 ESV
Years after the lofty word given to Joseph through a dream of his family bowing before him, they did. Years. More than years, trials. Hard trials. Rejection. Promotion. Deceit. Imprisonment. Promotion again. Forgotten. Finally recognized and exalted for his purpose.
“And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.” Genesis 45:5 ESV
More than exalted, gracious. Forgiving. Incredible really. What perspective on hard times. Jail wasn’t like our prisons, it was terrible. Like a POW camp. He didn’t carry it forward. He kept his mind focused on his purpose. Saving people from destruction. In this passage, saving his family from poverty, famine and even death. He was the deliverer. But it took so long. There were so many difficulties. So many days of feeling like life had taken a wrong turn.
I wonder if part of Joseph’s success was his attitude? It is pretty incredible. To have that kind of power and extend that kind of grace is amazing. But that was he was created for. That was his mission. At least one of the primary ones. How about you? What has God created you for? Have you written it off because it has taken so long, or life has taken another turn? He went from prison to throne. That’s just like Jesus to do.
